Shiplake College

Shiplake College is a co-educational boarding and day school overlooking the river near Henley-on-Thames, offering a holistic education to around 540 pupils from Years 7 to 13 (ages 11-18). Every pupil is placed at the heart of Shiplake life and the College’s ethos is underpinned by what is referred to as the Three Is – Inclusive, Individual and Inspirational.

At Shiplake College education is transformational. We are a selective school but welcome a broad range of academic abilities. What is far more important is the sort of person you are, and what excites us is the sort of person you can become. I hope to welcome you to Shiplake to experience the magic for yourself. September 2023 marked the introduction of Year 7 co-education at Shiplake College, a significant development alongside celebrating 25 years of sixth form coeducation. A strong 44% of girls allowed for the best possible start and from the very first day the atmosphere in the year group was positive and, whilst new in so many ways, also felt completely normal. In September 2024 the College has a record school roll of 540, including 42% of girls in the Lower School (Years 7 and 8).

Shiplake College continues to evolve as the school grows, not just in pure numbers, but in its ambition and aspiration. Sprawling new playing pitches replace ones by the riverside that get waterlogged for large parts of the year. A full-size artificial playing pitch, 3G training pitch, and more cricket nets, will start to be used in January 2025. Simultaneously, ten more classrooms and five new science laboratories have been created in recent months.

The setting is beautiful and uplifting but it is the people who provide the magic and create Shiplake’s authentic and unique culture. When you walk through the doors you will be greeted by warm smiles and exuberant waggy tails.
