Shebbear College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 4 to 18, located in rural North Devon, UK.

Head's Welcome

Welcome to Shebbear College!

Our ethos is based around our values of creativity and curiosity, compassion and courtesy, courage and confidence. What we do, day-in, day-out at Shebbear ensures that the correct ingredients are in place to see our pupils thrive across all areas of school life, whether it is in the classroom, on the stage, the sports field or out on the moor – we work as a team to get the best from the young people in our care.

We make the most of our stunning campus and its location in the heart of rural north Devon with outdoor education and sport playing a key part in the lives of many Shebbearians. Often described as being in “the middle of nowhere, yet the centre of everywhere” we have so much on our doorstep to develop the skills and experiences of our pupils – whether it is hitting the surf during an after school activity or taking the lead in a whole school drama production, we seek to encourage the best from everyone in a supportive and caring environment where our small size means we get to know every pupil well.

Our website gives you a taste of what we offer our Shebbearians, but the best way for you to get a true feel for our unique school is to come and visit us in person. I look forward to meeting with you.

Our 85-acre campus is situated in the beautiful Devon countryside, close to Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks and the fantastic surfing beaches of the North Cornwall coast. With five sports fields, a nature trail and an outdoor classroom, we try to take our learning outdoors as much as possible and provide a rich outdoor education programme. We want our pupils to see the world around them, to appreciate nature, blue skies and open fields. We want them to seize opportunities, be positive and never stop learning!

Our individual approach – our ability and passion to understand each pupil as an individual, to see their potential and to ignite their spark – is what makes us special and stands us apart from other schools. At Shebbear College, thanks to our smaller size and our dedicated staff, we really are able to provide a tailored education. We find out what makes each child tick and we develop new and innovative ways of teaching to suit them as individuals, so that they can achieve their best in every aspect of their education.
