Pocklington School’s renowned emphasis on pastoral care as part of an individually focused education ensures pupils feel valued and grow in confidence. Lasting friendships blossom in our outstanding boarding houses that create a home from home for all our boarders and through the many co-curricular pursuits, which take place every day.

Head's Welcome

We are immensely proud of our heritage at Pocklington and highly ambitious for our future, with a clear focus on innovation underpinned by our core aims, values and practice.

We believe in encouraging pupils to seize opportunities from the broad range of activities on offer. These help to form the bedrock of our young Pocklingtonians’ character and grow that vital quality of confidence.

Our sense of community and care for each other is tangible. This is no more evident than in our outstanding boarding provision. The values of courage, truth and trust drive all that we do, ensuring that our pupils leave with the character and skills required for life-long learning, alongside a deep sense of social responsibility and the ability to shape their own future.

Our 50-acre campus sits on the edge of the vibrant, friendly market town of Pocklington, 12 miles east of York. Facilities include an indoor sports hall, strength and conditioning room and swimming pool, 21 acres of grass sports pitches and two full-sized synthetic pitches, a 300-seat theatre, music school and a well-equipped Art and Design Technology Centre.

Independent thought is prized

Right through from Prep School, where the Curiosity Project curriculum enables children to expand their critical thinking skills through structured and creative enquiry, to the Sixth Form, where independent thought is prized, our pupils are encouraged to be resilient, resourceful learners. To support the School’s strategic goal of further improving academic performance, increasing pupils’ independence and meeting the needs of modern family life, pupils engage in a 5-day working week, Monday to Friday.  Saturdays are reserved for sports fixtures, and boarders enjoy a full weekend programme of activities and trips.

We offer:

  • Forces discount
  • Expert teaching – reflected on our excellent academic results
  • Individual focus inside and outside the classroom
  • A healthy mix of day and boarding pupils, including other Forces families
  • Recognition and support for individual talent – from rugby to piano
  • Sports Scholars Programme for pupils entering Third Year (Year 9) and Sixth Form (Year 12).
  • Sports Scholars Programme for pupils entering Year 12

Our ‘can do’ attitude inspires all pupils to enjoy sport at an appropriate level and learn about teamwork, personal challenge and how to win and lose well as part of a supportive team.

Pupils also enjoy:

  • The best educational tools and appropriate technology to enthuse and inspire
  • Flexible learning platforms to allow them to progress at their own pace
  • Sixth Form with spacious communal areas, a study centre and a comprehensive library
  • A thriving CCF and Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme
  • Regular communication with home through FaceTime and Skype
  • The benefit of our valued close partnership with parents
