King’s Bruton

The Plox, Bruton, BA10 0ED

King’s Bruton is more than a school. It is a thriving community shaped by shared values and a rich heritage stretching back more than 500 years. We are blessed with a wonderful location in the small town of Bruton, and our pupils are lucky to live and learn surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside.

We are proudly a smaller school, and one that draws its strength from the fact that we combine our size with a truly outstanding education. If you ask our pupils, a common refrain you will hear is how much they appreciate being part of a school that punches above its weight in all we do, offering a breadth and quality of education that you would expect from one many times our size. We do all this, however, while preserving those things that really matter: a sense of community, a recognition that our character is what will enable us to make a difference in the world, and also a belief that school should be fun, with room for children to be children.

Our pupils’ achievements are certainly impressive. In recent years we have had outstanding GCSE, A Level and BTEC results, with the vast majority of our pupils going on to their first choice of university. Our sports teams regularly reach national finals, there are over 70 pupils in our full Choir, our Chapel Choir sing Choral Evensong in regional cathedrals every term, and our 200-seat theatre is the venue for exceptional drama. Our thriving CCF is one of the oldest in the country, whilst over half of our senior pupils undertake Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Head's Welcome

“At King’s we celebrate not just our pupils’ achievements, but also the people they become along the way. We aim for our pupils to grow into adults who want to make a difference to the world around them, and who have the character and skills to do so. King’s is exceptional not just because of what we offer our pupils, but because of what we achieve through them. Pupils at King’s are ambitious and confident, but they are also grounded and humble. It is a tremendous privilege to be Headmaster at King’s, and to be surrounded not just by dedicated and caring staff, but by a body of pupils who are interesting, fun, and kind. It is a thriving school community, and I would be delighted to welcome you for a visit so that you can see it for yourself.”

In recent years we have had outstanding GCSE, A Level and BTEC results with the vast majority of our pupils going on to their first choice of university. Our hockey teams have reached 12 National Finals, there are over 70 pupils in our full Choir, our Chapel Choir sings Evensong in regional cathedrals every term, whilst our 200-seat theatre is the venue for outstanding drama. Our thriving CCF is one of the oldest in the country, and over half of our senior pupils undertake Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. King’s pupils are encouraged to respect themselves and others, to adopt a positive attitude, and to strive to be the best they can be. Pupils leave here confident, but not arrogant, and fully prepared to contribute to life beyond the School gates. King’s is a busy, happy and thriving community and we would be delighted to welcome you for a visit, we are confident that you will be impressed.
