Open Days & Events

Taking a look around Haberdashers’ Adams is the best way to learn more.

We hold open events in January and February each year, for those considering joining the school in Year 7 and Sixth Form, along with some specific boarding events for anyone interested in our boarding option (boys only). Boarding is a very attractive option for many because there are no education fees at Haberdashers’ Adams – you simply pay for boarding.

A state selective grammar school with no day fees to pay, we provide boarding for boys in a 100-acre countryside setting and a small market town location. Recommended by The Good Schools Guide, our reputation for high academic results is equalled by our strong house system and our huge variety of enrichment activities.

Head's Welcome

Welcome to Haberdashers’ Adams, one of the few selective state grammar schools in the UK. We offer boarding and day places for boys aged 11-18 with girls joining as day pupils in the Sixth Form. We will go fully co-ed from Year 7 in September 2024. We have a long and proud tradition of successfully educating generations of young people with a passion for helping our pupils to develop as confident, articulate young men and women who are interesting, balanced and who care for each other. I hope you will get a glimpse of that through our website and book a visit to experience in person the magical feel of Adams.

Haberdashers’ Adams has been a free grammar school since it was founded over 350 years ago and offers an exceptional education for boys aged 11-18 and girls aged 16-18, with the added bonus of boarding for boys (this part is not free but much more affordable than the independent school sector at under £4,800 per term).

The school’s reputation for high academic results proceeds it as too does its strong House system and House competitions. There is a huge focus on providing pupils with as many opportunities as possible to try new things, with over 50 extra-curricular activities including a thriving Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and an active Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, alongside clubs covering sport, art, astronomy, debating and creative writing to name just a few. There really is something for everyone!

Life is exciting, busy and fast-paced at Haberdashers’ Adams which has some fantastic facilities, including a dedicated Sixth Form Centre with its own lecture theatre, seminar rooms and bistro, a modern music and performing arts centre, a brand-new teaching block for art and maths, and some superb sports facilities including a swimming pool and over 100 acres of playing fields.
