Bilton Grange Preparatory School

Dunchurch, Rugby, Warwickshire, CV22 6QU

Established in 1873, Bilton Grange is an outstanding co-educational boarding and day school for ages 4-13 set in 90 acres of beautiful Warwickshire countryside.

Head's Welcome

Bilton Grange is a special place: a place where childhood is protected and futures are prepared. A place that celebrates its heritage and embraces innovation. A place with strong moral values and a human heart. A place where friendships are born and memories are made. Most importantly, Bilton Grange is a place where children want to be because they stay younger longer and become the hero of their own story. Here they have the time, space and opportunity to be themselves, to develop morally and intellectually and to establish their individual character. Here they take their first steps in the adventure of life.

Bilton Grange Preparatory School is one of the foremost co-educational boarding and day, pre-prep and preparatory, schools in the country. Set in a stunning Pugin mansion, Bilton Grange Preparatory School benefits from over ninety acres of heritage parkland providing the perfect theatre of dreams for children to be enthusiastic, energised and inquisitive learners.

With the best specialist teachersamazing facilities and some of the smallest class sizes in the area, Bilton Grange is where children truly fulfil their potential, grow their confidence and unlock their talents. Design Technology and Science are taught by specialists in fully-equipped labs. Top musicians provide specialist music tuition and children can take part in a range of choirs and instrumental ensembles as well as drama productions in our fully equipped theatre. Swimming is taught in our 25m indoor pool and pupils can learn to play golf on our 9-hole course. Children can also engage in further sports like horse riding as well as outdoor activities such as Beavers, Cubs and Brownies in our woodlands and beyond.

With a strong track record of scholarships to top Senior Schools, including the top academic scholarship to Rugby in 2015/16, space to play and room to learn, children enjoy the best education and an idyllic childhood at Bilton Grange.

Full, weekly and flexi boarding are all popular at Bilton Grange, and boarding life is fun, with children able to take their first steps towards independence in warm, homely boarding houses staffed by our amazing team of matrons, house mothers and our Assistant Head, Boarding.

We have one boys’ house and one girls’ house, and both houses have undergone extensive refurbishment, with dorms being redecorated (in consultation with the children) to reflect that these truly are homes from home.

In advance of them joining, we invite children who are going to be boarding at BG to have one or two nights with us in the boarding house, as well as a full day at school.  We recognise that it can be a big step for families and children, and a taster often helps alleviate little worries and concerns about what staying at BG might be like.  We also provide a ‘guide to boarding’ which answers both parents’ and children’s questions.

Working in partnership with parents, staff create a nurturing environment where children away from home for the first time can feel comfortable, safe and secure, whether they are staying for an occasional night a week or full boarding.

A full programme of evening and weekend activities means that learning to board in preparation for senior school, is accessible and enjoyable. Special events including discos and candlelit formal dinners help to make boarding a truly special experience, creating memories and friendships to last a lifetime.
