Campbell College Pipe Band had a great day at the College’s 125th Speech Day celebration. They were joined by two very special Old Campbellians – Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody and drummer Jonny Quinn. More than 500 pupils, staff and parents enjoyed the occasion. Jonny, who started his career in the College’s Pipe Band, was treated to a special performance by the current pipers and drummers while Gary met with GCSE and A-level Music pupils to talk about life in the music industry, before both musicians joined forces to present prizes to all the prizewinners. Headmaster Robert Robinson commented ‘Gary and Jonny embody the ethos of Campbell – to inspire individuals to be the best they can be, contribute to the world around them and grow into men of character. It was a privilege to watch them encourage the next generation of Campbellians to fulfil their potential, whether in the classroom or on the stage!’ Robbie Cooper, a Year 11 drummer with the Pipe Band, added: ‘It was great to meet Jonny and interesting to see that being a drummer in a pipe band can lead to all sorts of opportunities.’
